The UK Bribery Act, 2010, implemented and set out for a smooth sail

The UK Bribery Act is already implemented with effect from July 1, 2011, replacing the existing ancient common laws on corruption and bribery. To make the new law official the Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC has agreed to an initiative for companies to "self report" bribery.

The Lord Advocate has also requested that from the day of its implementation the police are to report any bribery case law, include cases that come to their attention from the corruption that was done under the law before 1 July, to the Crown Office's Serious and Organised Crime Division. All decisions on criminal procedure in such cases will be taken by the Crown Counsel, representing the Lord Advocate and will guide them on the most serious cases.
